acid neutralizers

Acid Neutralizers

Tests have shown that acidic water can accelerate corrosion causing leaks and leading to increased levels of metals such as lead and copper in your drinking water.

Raising the pH of the acidic water eliminates acidic water’s adverse effects. You’ll prevent corrosion of your pipes, fixtures, appliances and avoid the negative health effects of drinking acidic water. Many homes combine neutralizers with other treatment methods like PFOA filters in Bucks County and the surrounding areas.

How it Works?

We offer free on-site water testing for water hardness, pH, chlorine, nitrates, TDS, iron, and coliform bacteria. If our testing shows low pH levels, your water may be too acidic, which can damage your plumbing and appliances. An acid neutralizer system will balance your water’s pH, ensuring it’s safe and preventing costly corrosion.

Book a Water Test

Schedule a test to check your water’s pH levels. We’ll determine if the water is too acidic and assess its impact on plumbing and fixtures.

Home Evaluation

We’ll evaluate your home plumbing, test pH levels in various points of the system, and recommend the right acid neutralizer to balance your water safely.

Installation

Our certified installers will ensure the acid neutralizer system is perfectly sized and integrated into your home water supply for optimal performance.

Signs Your Home Needs an Acid Neutralizer

Acidic water causes serious damage to plumbing systems and fixtures throughout your home. If you notice blue-green staining around drains and faucets, your water likely has a low pH that’s leaching copper from pipes. Professional acid neutralizers in Hatfield, PA can address acidity issues such as metallic-tasting water, corroded water heaters, and pinhole leaks in copper plumbing.

Low pH water lacks proper alkalinity to protect your home’s infrastructure. The corrosion it causes releases metals like copper and manganese into your water supply, creating health concerns and unsightly staining. Testing your water’s pH reveals whether you need treatment. Readings below 7.0 indicate acidic conditions, with levels under 6.5 requiring immediate attention to prevent ongoing plumbing damage.

acid neutralizer bucks county

An acid neutralizer in Bucks County uses calcite or a calcite blend to raise pH and add alkalinity to your water. As acidic water flows through tanks filled with neutralizing media, the calcite dissolves slightly and balances water chemistry. This process stops corrosion, protects plumbing investments, and extends the life of water heaters and other fixtures exposed to your water supply.

Professional installation positions the acid neutralizer properly within your water system. Homeowners also install UV systems in Bucks County for complete water quality management. Regular monitoring maintains optimal pH levels, and occasional media replacement keeps the acid neutralizer in Bucks County working effectively for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Blue or Green?
If you notice blue-green stains in your sinks, showers or other areas that heavily use water, your water likely has a low pH value which means your water is acidic.

If the pH level of your water is between 6.0 – 6.9, you only need calcite in your neutralizer. For pH levels of your water between 5.0 – 6.0, you’ll need to use our calcium corrasex blend.

Properly sized neutralizers require maintenance every 12-18 months depending upon water usage.

All acid neutralizers should be cleaned and refilled with new calcite every 5 years. This is in addition to regular maintenance.

We recommend never installing a unit smaller than 1.5 cubic foot. Although we do sell 1.0 cubic foot systems, 95% of the time they’re too small for most households.

The key to an acid neutralizer is contact time of the water coming in contact with the filter media. The larger the media surface, the greater the contact time – especially during peak water usage like showers and washing laundry.

Flow rates vary between the different sized neutralizers. Larger tanks have a larger flow rate. The different sized tanks with their flow rates are:

  • 1.0 Cubic Foot Neutralizer – 7 GPM
  • 1.5 Cubic Foot Neutralizer – 10 GPM
  • 2.0 Cubic Foot Neutralizer – 12 GPM
  • 2.5 Cubic Foot Neutralizer – 15 GPM

Typically you’ll need to refill the filter media in your neutralizer once a year, depending on your water usage and the size or your neutralizer. Here are our general guidelines:

  • Media in 1.5 cubic foot neutralizers’ media needs to be replaced every 6 – 12 months.
  • Media in 2.0 cubic foot neutralizers’ media needs to be replaced every 12 – 18 months.
  • Media in 2.5 cubic foot neutralizers’ media needs to be replaced every 18 – 24 months.

The bigger the neutralizer, the more media it holds and the longer that media lasts. Larger neutralizers also have the benefit of giving your water more contact time with the media. Meaning larger neutralizers can handle lower pH’s compared to smaller neutralizer tanks.

Typically once per week. But it really depends on the acidity and sediment in your water. If your waters between 6.0 and 6.9 with little to no sediment in it, you’ll typically need to backwash one day a week; two at the most. But if your water supply has light to heavy sediment in it and/or it has a lower pH than 6.0, you’ll need to backwash the neutralizer at least every 3 days.

There aren’t hard and fast rules. Again, it depends on how much water your household uses and the size of your neutralizer. On average, downflow acid neutralizers should be backwashed once every three to four days to make sure the filter media isn’t channeling or solidifying.

  • Yes, maintenance is minimal and can be done annually.
  • You simply need to add more neutralizing media (calcite) to the tank.
  • The system uses a natural stone media, not harsh chemicals.
  • Some advanced systems have an automatic backwashing feature for cleaning.
  • A professional can perform the refill quickly during an annual inspection.
