The Chemical Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), also known as C8, and Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) are bio-permanent. They do not naturally break down in water or the human body and are resistant to direct oxidation. According to studies, exposure to the chemicals may cause cancer.
